I have a confession to make: I’m a happy Christian.
Words that mean the same thing as happy include: “cheerful, content, joyful, glad, satisfied, peaceful, blessed, captivated.”
Just reading that list can stir up feelings of happiness.
And isn’t that what everyone really wants—to be happy?
I don’t want to mislead you. I don’t feel happy every second of every day.
Just like you, life on planet earth comes at me and circumstances aren’t always good.
But God is.
And this life is not all there is.
In fact, it’s just the beginning. Of forever.
I believe you are visiting my blog by divine design.
I created this site for the sheer purpose of communicating with my readers how they can experience the happiness, contentment, and peace Christ died to give them.
I don’t claim to be a theologian.
In fact, I taught high school math for thirteen years.
But you may be as surprised as I was to learn that the two fields are related.
Yep, that’s right.
I found a quote on the Internet that proves it: And Satan said, “Put the alphabet in math.”
(Sorry if that brought back traumatic memories for you.)
Seriously though, I am an extremely blessed recipient of Christ’s riches—all at no cost to me (Eph. 2:8-9).
And now, all I want to do is tell others how they too can enjoy and exude His cherishing love and exuberant life.
There is truly no happier way to live!
My blog’s tagline, “A Happy Christian’s Secret Life,” was inspired by the title of Hannah Whitall Smith’s beloved classic, The Christian’s Secret to a Happy Life.
This was one of the first books I read that began to revolutionize the way I viewed the Christian life.
No, I’m not living a double life.
The secret life I’m referring to is the life that indwells every believer in Christ 24/7—the very life of Christ Himself!
Unfortunately, this is one of the best-kept secrets among Christians.
It’s not because they don’t want to let others in on this seemingly-too-good-to-be-true news (the gospel of grace).
It’s because the light hasn’t been turned on in their own minds.
I know, because I was in the dark about this from the age of nine to thirty-nine!
Thirty years of not knowing the incredible Treasure I had living on the inside of me.
Now that’s a cryin’ shame!
Reminds me of Jed Clampett livin’ poor on his homestead for no tellin’ how long before he “accidentally” discovered black gold running just beneath its surface.
He was a millionaire for years and didn’t even know it!
I just celebrated my 53rd birthday and can honestly say the last fourteen years of my life have been the happiest—all because of getting my mind renewed with the truths concerning Christ’s life in me 24/7 and the brand-new, righteous, and holy creation I already am in Him (Rom. 12:2; 1 Cor. 3:16-17; 2 Cor. 5:17, 21).
In order to help turn the light on in my readers’ minds concerning this incredible gospel of grace, my goal is to post at least once a week on Fridays.
Most of my posts will fall under one (or more) of the following five major categories:
- Done Deal – The believer in Christ has been completely forgiven for the sins of their lifetime through His shed blood. They already possess a brand-new, righteous identity through their participation with Him in His crucifixion, burial, resurrection, and ascension (Rom. 6:6, Gal. 2:20; Eph. 4:32; Col. 2:13-14; 3:3; Heb. 9:22).
- Flawless Fusion – When the believer is joined in union with Christ, they are instantly and completely made holy. Holiness is not something they have to “try” to achieve, but a truth about their core identity to be believed. When we believe the truth about who we are, holy does as holy is (Rom. 11:16; 1 Cor. 3:16-17; Eph. 1:4; 5:27; Col. 1:22; 3:12-14) .
- Gospel of Grace – The gospel isn’t just good news, but the seemingly-too-good-to-be-true news that faith in Christ alone makes the believer right with God. Grace is the person and power of Christ indwelling the believer 24/7 (Acts 20:24; Gal. 1:6; Phil. 1:7).
- Holy, but Hoodwinked – While the believer in Christ has been forever made righteous and holy, they have a real, invisible enemy who diligently works to deceive them into believing lies about Christ and their true identity in Him (John 10:10; 2. Tim. 2:26; Rev. 12:9).
- Inside-Out Living – The believer in Christ possesses His life from the moment they believe in Him. As a result, everything they think, say, and do can issue from His life rather than the flesh (natural abilities). The believer who experiences the revelation that Christ is their life no longer views themselves as living for the Lord, but rather as living from His awesome person and power by faith (Gal. 5:16, 25; Rom. 15:18; Col. 3:4).
If every believer fully understood the vast treasure of the secret life that indwelt them, I daresay they would be living very different lives.
Lives filled with contagious enthusiasm and passion.
Lives that resemble Christ.
Lives that cause unbelievers to take notice.
I’m a small-town girl who grew up in the Texas Panhandle.
I love doing life at a slow and simple pace with my husband, Steven.
We have a son, Wesley, a beautiful daughter-in-law, Katie, and two precious grandchildren, Logan and Sidney.
In 2006, Steven and I founded His Heart’s Desire Ministries, a nonprofit ministry established to help believers in Christ around the globe live loved in Him.
Through providing local and online Bible/book studies, this ministry helps Christians understand their pure, righteous, and holy identity in Christ and experience His no-strings-attached love.
And, as an automatic result, Christ’s love is expressed through their lives, drawing others into His love.
MY JOURNEY AS AN AUTHOR:
Having taught high school math for thirteen years, I never dreamed I would be a writer.
I didn’t even like to read—which is hard to believe considering the number of books that now line the shelves in my library.
I’m so thankful God put a voracious appetite in me to know Him better and to understand who I am in His Son.
Every great pursuit starts with great hunger.
And now, after years of devouring grace-filled books and being taught by the tender Teacher who lives in me, I am so happy and excited to announce that my intimate, interactive devotional study of the first two chapters of the Song of Solomon, His Banner Over Me Is Pursuing Love has been released.
I wrote this book to help Christians enjoy greater intimacy with Christ through understanding their flawless identity in Him.
My life is full and blessed. But it hasn’t always been that way.
Through my blog I will share snapshots and short film reels of my journey with you—truths I’ve learned and many untruths that I’ve had to unlearn—in order to begin enjoying the finished work of Christ.
I invite you to interact with me through your comments and questions.
I will tell you up front that I don’t have all the answers to your questions.
But the One who does lives in me, and I will continually look to Him and His Word for truth, wisdom, and guidance in my responses.
Did you happen to notice the signature verse in my blog heading?
First Corinthians 1:30 (NASB) pretty well sums up what I want every believer in Christ on planet earth to know:
“By His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption.”
I also like the Good News Translation:
“God has brought you into union with Christ Jesus, and God has made Christ to be our wisdom. By him we are put right with God; we become God’s holy people and are set free.”
Put right with God. God’s holy people. Set free. Sound good to you?
If you are a believer in Christ, all of these statements are true of you right here, right now.
God has already set you free and made you holy and right with Him. It’s a done deal.
But if you don’t believe it, you won’t experience the happiness, contentment, and peace that’s yours for the enjoying. 24/7.
I’m looking forward to getting to know you in cyberspace!
And one thing’s for sure.
There will never be a moment when we aren’t experiencing happiness in perfect unity with Christ and each other.
Until next time,
Live Christ—Live Happy!
